Matthew Venoit
Prior to Georgetown, Matthew worked at Goldman Sachs as a corporate bond trader. Based in New York and Hong Kong, he was responsible for analyzing economic and political events, predicting future outcomes, and positioning credit risk. Two of his most memorable experiences on the trading floor include successfully managing risk during peak market volatility surrounding Russia and Saudi Arabia's 2020 Oil price "war" and the 'pandemic market crash.' As head of Goldman's U.S. Credit trading team in Asia, Mathew developed strong business relationships across the Asia Pacific. He regularly visited five different countries to discuss market strategy and trading opportunities. In 2020, motivated by a strong desire to study how members of political communities communicate, solve issues, and express a shared world, Matthew left his job in trading. He moved to Belgium to earn a master's degree in philosophy at K.U. Leuven, where he successfully defended a thesis on the foundations of logic and communication. Though passionate about philosophical research and political theory, Matthew felt called to public service. By entering the Walsh School of Foreign Service, he hopes to equip himself to work towards a lasting, positive change through foreign policy by focusing on Global Politics and Security.
"I chose Georgetown based on its commitment to integrating contemplation and action within a life of service."
