Kyoko Imai
Growing up in Abu Dhabi, Kyoko witnessed firsthand the exploitation of migrant workers, which motivated her involvement in the Human Rights Club, where she advocated for and raised awareness about seemingly invisible issues under the monarchical regime. Since then, she has devoted her research to regime types and the wide-ranging impacts they may have. This includes her study of the rise of Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan’s Rape of Nanjing, and the impacts of Linkage, Leverage, and Organizational Power on Post-Cold War Regimes. She received her B.A. in International Relations with a minor in French from the University of Rochester. During her undergraduate career, she had the opportunity to explore the inner workings of the European Parliament in Brussels as well as the motivations behind the United Kingdom Independence Party. Most recently, her internship with Congressman Will Hurd (R-TX) gave her exposure to American foreign policy legislation and congressional hearings. At Georgetown, Kyoko plans to take a closer look into the role that Japan will play in the future of stability in Asia. She also hopes to explore various sectors by pursuing internships in the consulting, think tank, and international organization spheres.
"Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) provides a unique combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The small size allows me to make personal connections with renowned faculty and practitioners. Being in DC, there is extensive access to conferences, workshops, and internship opportunities. Last, but certainly not least, I am constantly inspired by my cohort."
