John Tomomichi Indergaard
John Tomomichi Indergaard is a Master of Science in Foreign Service candidate concentrating in Global Politics and Security. His main research interests include the Indo-Pacific, mediation, and fragile states, with a particular focus on Japan, the Korean peninsula, and Burma.
John aims to become a U.S. diplomat working in Asia. John was born and raised in New York City. He majored in Government with a minor in International Relations at Cornell University. Before MSFS, he interned at the Wilson Center and the International Service for Human Rights in New York, where he worked on expanding civil society space and protections for human rights defenders at the UN. John also spent a year living and working in Busan, South Korea as an English teacher.
At MSFS, John continues to build expertise in the Indo-Pacific, pursuing a graduate certificate in Asian Studies and interning at the Chin Association of Maryland, a Burma human rights NGO, and the Stimson Center’s 38 North Program. He is the graduate Student Review Editor for the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs. He speaks French and Japanese.
