Andrew Yang
Andrew recently transitioned from a decade-long career in software and telecommunications to join Georgetown’s MSFS program to pursue a public-sector career in diplomacy. He plans to concentrate in Science, Technology, and International Affairs. Andrew aims to synthesize his technological expertise with foreign policy studies, focusing on artificial intelligence, telecommunications, U.S.-Pacific relations, and U.S.-China policy. He speaks Mandarin Chinese at an intermediate level.
Andrew began his career in the private sector specializing in software-defined networking at AT&T Mobility Labs. There, he modernized software and DevOps practices to deploy cloud-based Virtual Network Functions for AT&T’s nationwide networks, including the public-private partnership with the NTIA to deliver the First Responder Network Authority interoperable public safety broadband network. He continued his work at Itential Inc., developing a platform that delivers next-generation capabilities for network configuration, serving clients across multiple industries. Andrew also has experience as a technical consultant for research at the intersection of AI and society, most recently implementing a technical curriculum for a PhD-level course to facilitate non-STEM students’ exploration of leveraging large language models (LLMs) in text analysis.
