Elizabeth Linder, Facebook’s Politics and Government Specialist, is spending the week on Georgetown’s campus as a participant of the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy’s 2012 Georgetown Leadership Summit (GLS). This week is a bit of a change of pace for Ms. Linder, who spends most of her time helping politicians and government officials around the world improve their Facebook outreach strategies. Read More
When MSFS students arrive on Georgetown’s campus, many are already fluent in a foreign language. Some, like Isaac Chan (’14) are fluent in three and are working on their fourth. As a practical, skill-based Master’s program, MSFS requires that all students pass a foreign language proficiency test. Read More
MSFS welcomes Margaret Heffernan, bestselling author of Willful Blindness: Why We Ignore the Obvious at Our Peril to host a leadership clinic on Saturday, February 8. In this book, she argues that the biggest threats and dangers we face are the ones we don’t see-not because they’re secret or invisible, but because we’re willfully blind. Read More

On Wednesday, January 16, MSFS hosted a lunch and discussion with Scott Carpenter, Deputy Director from Google Ideas. Mr. Carpenter gave a talk titled “Thought Leadership: Incubating New Approaches to Global Challenges @ Google Ideas.” Google Ideas is Google’s new “think/do” tank, and Mr. Carpenter is responsible for driving the portfolio addressing illicit networks as well as advising its strategy in three other key areas: confronting violent extremism, expanding freedom of expression in closed societies, and securing citizens in weak states. In the summer of 2011, the Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) created Storyboard, a video competition for current students, as a way to encourage creative use of digital media to tell MSFS stories. The competition ran during the 2011-2012 academic year. Storyboard called for students to create short videos suitable for YouTube that responded to the theme of “MSFS Core Values.” Read More
