Joseph Michaels
Joe is a second-year Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) student concentrating in Global Politics and Security and pursuing an Asian Studies Certificate. Joe is primarily interested in U.S.-China relations, East Asian security issues, and political risk in emerging markets. His research has largely focused on Chinese foreign policy in both historical and contemporary contexts and its implications for Sino-American relations. Through his coursework, Joe further explores security trends in East Asia and U.S. national security challenges more broadly.
Prior to MSFS, Joe was a management consultant at Accenture, where he advised private, public, and non-governmental organizations on global multi-stakeholder engagement and change management strategies. He also worked for an economic consulting firm conducting quantitative analysis and for a presidential candidate during the most recent U.S. presidential election. Joe holds bachelor’s degrees in business economics and political science from the University of Florida and has completed post-baccalaureate coursework in international business. After completing the MSFS program, Joe hopes to pursue a career in political risk consulting and commercial diplomacy with a regional focus on Asia.
"Few programs offer as rigorous a curriculum as Georgetown’s MSFS program. While I understood the program would be demanding, I knew it would be just as rewarding. Importantly, I felt that the world-class scholars and practitioners would best help me build a career in international affairs.”
