Munahil Sultana
Muna Sultana recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a joint-major in Government and International Studies with a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Franklin and Marshall College where she served as the Student Body President. With a specific interest in combating gender-based violence and conflict-related sexual violence, Muna hopes to use her academic background to make change on an international scale.
Her love for policy making began her sophomore year in high school when she started working for the first Haitian-American woman to be elected to the New York State Assembly, Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages. This experience sparked her interest in community development and she has worked diligently ever since to continue this passion into her college years. During the last few years, she has gained valuable experience interning with the U.S. Department of Interior, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. House of Representatives with Congressman André Carson and the U.S. Department of State. Additionally, she is an alumnus of the International Leadership Foundation Scholarship (ILF), Conference on Asian-Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL), Alexander Hamilton Scholarship and Islamic Scholarship Fund.
Muna studied abroad in Amman, Jordan as a U.S. Department of State Gilman Scholar and U.S. Department of Defense Boren Scholar where she focused on the geopolitics of the Middle East. Intertwining her experience in foreign affairs and passion for change, Muna hopes to become a Foreign Service Officer (FSO) for the U.S. Department of State. She worked in the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Consulate in Dubai, UAE and the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues (S/GWI) as part of the U.S. Foreign Service Internship Program (USFSIP) and completed her voyage as an inaugural Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholar. As a Thomas R. Pickering Fellow, Muna will be attending graduate school at Georgetown University to obtain her Masters of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) before working at the U.S. Department of State for the next five years. In her free time, Muna loves to travel and sketch portraits of her friends and family.
