MSFS second-year student Rasheed Hamdan was invited to speak at an event on Friday, December 11 with former Governor Martin O’Malley (D-MD). O’Malley, a candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, visited a mosque, the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Center, to express his solidarity with the Islamic community following Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s call to bar Muslims from entering the U.S. He said no country was immune from the “scourge of hate preachers” that try to turn us against each other and the language heard from Donald Trump was “not the language of America’s future.” He added that the murders in San Bernardino did not define Islam any more than the murders in Charleston defined Christianity. Then Governor O’Malley was joined by Muslim leaders on the steps of the ADAMS Center to speak to the press.
