Title: Dr. Nannerl Keohane Gives Leadership Lecture

On Monday, February 25, Dr. Nannerl O. Keohane delivered a lecture to MSFS students and alumni entitled “Who Leads in a Democracy?” This lecture was sponsored by the Phillipe Sachs Leadership Fund, made possible by a generous gift from alumnus Phillipe Sachs, with the goal of supporting programming in the area of student leadership.

Following an introduction by Dean Carol Lancaster and Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia, Dr. Keohane discussed aspects of her book, “Thinking About Leadership,” which was required reading for all incoming MSFS students. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions of Dr. Keohane, making for a lively discussion. According to Yeokwang Brian An (’14), “After reading the book, ‘Thinking About Leadership’ and attending the lecture today, I realize how the leadership of various actors is so important to activate and develop the formation of civil associations which will reproduce other kinds of leadership in civil associations that will ultimately establish strong civic participation and a healthy democracy.”

MSFS alumni and students had a chance to mingle at a reception immediately following the lecture. Additionally, 15 MSFS students enjoyed a private dinner with Dr. Nannerl O. Keohane, President John J. DeGioia, Dean Carol Lancaster, and alumnus Phillipe Sachs. The event was sponsored by The Master of Science in Foreign Service Program and The Office of the President.
