Tom Schiavone
Tom is a first-year student in the Global Politics and Security concentration. He was born in Australia and grew up in Cupertino, California. Tom received his B.A. in International Affairs with a concentration in International Economics from George Washington University (GWU). While attending GWU, He worked as a legislative intern in the House of Representatives and as a budget and management intern with the U.S.Treasury Department. Tom had the opportunity to study abroad in Amman, Jordan where he studied Arabic with the School of International Training. As the recipient of an R.O.T.C. scholarship, he served with Georgetown’s Hoya Battalion all four years of undergrad.
Tom served as a Field Artillery officer with the U.S. Army prior to attending Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS). He has served as a multiple launch rocket platoon leader in South Korea and has been deployed to Ukraine where he served as a fire support advisor to the Ukrainian Airmobile Forces. He continues to serve with the Army Reserve in the D.C. metro area and hopes to continue his career in public service with the U.S. government in a foreign affairs analysis capacity following graduation. Tom speaks Arabic and is particularly interested in conflict and security, counter-terrorism, and U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.
