Shea Megale
Shea C. Megale, assisted by service dog Pierre II, is a candidate for the Master of Foreign Service with a concentration in Global Politics and Security. Megale graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia as a history major and astronomy minor, and serves in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. First traditionally published at the age of twenty-three, Megale is the author of several award-winning fiction and nonfiction books, and through values of empathy and strength seeks to relieve suffering throughout the world.
As a member of the Lions Club and as a certified Virginia Master Naturalist, Megale is interested in the intersection of life in the human and natural world, and the defense of it in every form. Other research interests include military science, religious studies, film, and music. Megale was born with a form of muscular dystrophy, a genetic disability requiring the use of a motorized wheelchair, and thus the utilization of diplomacy and communication persist as paramount necessities in ministering to a humanity with both visible and non-visible disabilities. After the loss of Matthew Megale in 2017, the candidate's older brother, caring for those with addictions also became a defining aspiration. Georgetown is a family legacy for the candidate, whose grandfather holds a degree from the school of medicine. Megale plans to use the skills gained in this program to advance the above goals and enter the political arena.
"I chose MSFS because I wanted to understand power, but, more importantly, how to use it well."
