Reid Schnider
Reid is a MSFS candidate concentrating in Global Politics and Security and pursuing the Certificate in Diplomatic Studies. She is currently a Section Editor for the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs and most recently interned for Mercy Corps as their Africa and Peacebuilding Policy and Advocacy Intern.
She grew up in Berkeley, CA and received her BA in both Global Security and Justice and French from the University of Virginia. Her undergraduate thesis examined the motivations of Abubakar Shekau's iteration of Boko Haram, a terrorist group originating in Northeastern Nigeria. During her undergraduate studies, she interned at the State Department's Office of Foreign Missions, studied abroad in Paris, and volunteered for over three years as a GED tutor in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
She spent the summer following graduation at Root and Rebound, providing social services and legal information packets for incarcerated individuals. She subsequently moved to France to work as an English Teaching Assistant before returning to the US to work as an ESL intern for the International Rescue Committee, while studying Arabic and Spanish. She focuses on violent non-state actors, sub-state conflict, and governance in fragile states, with particular focus on US diplomacy relating to the Sahel.
"I chose the MSFS program because it not only offers unparalleled access to leading scholars, practitioners, and opportunities in the D.C. area, but also, because it is a program that is aware and takes seriously the charge of developing not just experts, but decision-makers. Georgetown holds quality of character, service, and ethical leadership in the same esteem as academic excellence."
