Kathryn Lavelle is the Ellen and Dixon Long Professor of World Affairs in the Department of Political Science at Case Western Reserve University and a Global Fellow in the History and Public Policy program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.  She served as a congressional fellow from 2006-7 where she worked on the staff of the House Committee on Financial Services, and she was a residential fellow at the Wilson Center from 2008-2009.  She was the inaugural Fulbright Chair at the Munk Centre at the University of Toronto in 2010.

Prior to earning her Ph.D., she worked in the US embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and for an international building materials firm in Cleveland.  The author of four books and numerous articles, chapters, and other publications, she has written extensively on topics of political economy, multilateralism, and US foreign policy.  Her most recent book, The Challenges of Multilateralism, was released by Yale University Press in 2020.

Dr. Lavelle holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northwestern University, an M.A. in Government from the University of Virginia, and a B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University.  While conducting research for her dissertation, she held special student status at the Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva, Switzerland.  She is a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
