Nicola Marcucci
Nicola is a student in Georgetown University’s Masters of Science in Foreign Service program studying Global Politics and Security. Currently an intern in the Office of Transition Initiatives at USAID, Nicola has spent the past year broadening his exposure to democracy and human rights focused practices in international relations in both multilateral and governmental environments.
This summer, Nicola interned with the Office of the 76th President of the General Assembly at the United Nations, where he assisted the Human Rights Team. Prior to the United Nations, he was an intern with the US Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, where he worked with the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs. Before returning to school, he worked in U.S. domestic politics where he focused on voter suppression and efforts to expand access to the ballot box.
Nicola is excited to build on his experiences and learn from the team at OTI about how to translate policymaking into implementation in the context of governance and how to improve development programs in this area to be more equitable and sustainable. Originally from Rome, Italy, Nicola grew up in Buffalo, NY and considers Western New York home. In addition to English, he speaks Spanish and Italian and is a huge soccer fan.
"I chose MSFS because it is a small, tight-knit program that places on emphasis on building applicable real-world skills. I wanted to learn from professors that worked, or even still work, in the organizations where I hope to build my career, such as the Department of State, USAID, and the United Nations."
