Brian Castro
Brian is an MSFS student in the STIA concentration with primary interests in global health security and diplomacy and the inclusion of civil rights in tech/data privacy. He is from Chicago, Illinois, and is a first-generation graduate student. He is an alum of Iowa State University and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) development program. He is also returned Peace Corps volunteer, where he worked as a community health development agent in Burkina Faso (2015 - 2017).
Prior to MSFS, Brian worked as a program manager for John Snow, Inc. (JSI) a public health consulting firm, where he managed global immunization programs such as new vaccine introductions and immunization program optimization for health systems in West and East Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. He is the current President of Diversity & Inclusion @ Georgetown (DiG)- a student organization and is a 2022 Google Public Policy Fellow working with the largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the US, UnidosUS. As a Tech Policy Fellow under the Sr. Civil Rights Policy Analyst of UnidosUS, Brian's main focus is on the intersections of data privacy/algorithmic accountability/automated and data-driven technologies and civil rights. Post graduation, Brian would like to continue to work in the space of health tech transfer and data privacy as they relate to civil rights.
