The U.S. Foreign Service

Georgetown University provides more members of the U.S. Foreign Service than the next three universities combined. One reason for this success is the assistance MSFS students receive in preparing for the Foreign Service examinations. The MSFS curriculum provides students with the knowledge of history, politics and economics that is tested on the Foreign Service written exam and the skills in memorandum writing, oral presentation, and group dynamics that are part of the Foreign Service oral exam. MSFS hosts training sessions, led by former Foreign Service Officers, to prepare students for both exams. Many ambassadors, diplomats and other foreign affairs professionals who serve as teachers and mentors of MSFS students give one-on-one guidance and advice, while Georgetown alumni who have been Directors of the Office of Recruitment, Examination and Employment and on the Board of Examiners of the Department of State share their experiences with students who wish to pursue careers in the Foreign Service.
