Annual International Commerce and Business Career Boot-Camp
During the weekend of September 25th-26th, 2009, Professor Ross Harrison held a career boot-camp for first and second year students. The purpose of the event was to give students exposure to a broad spectrum of types of employers, get them ready for job and internship interviews, and to practice their case and behavioral interview skills. In order to expose students to careers in the IC&B fields, presenters such as Clay Lowery, MSFS adjunct professor and former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs spoke about careers in government, John Banks, MSFS adjunct professor presented on careers in Energy, Audrey Bracey Deegan (MSFS '80), director at Deloitte, expounded on careers in consulting and conducted a case interview. In addition, Trevor Gunn, MSFS adjunct professor, shared his thoughts on careers in industry, Dan Steen from Owens-Illinois shared his experiences in the field of government relations and Hernan Narea, an SFS alum, conducted a behavioral interview exercise. MSFS alum and winner of the William Gaston alumni award in 2009, Jeff Bernstein, spoke about careers in finance.
The capstone of the event was a job counseling talk by SFS's Career Development Center. Despite the demanding session, the boot camp was rewarding for the students and allowed them to feel confident and prepared in their concentration.
